Stepping into the golden era of Hip-Hop, as we conceived it, was never going to be a passive affair. We wanted to plunge visitors into a multi-sensory journey where they didn't just walk into the era but actively experienced the raw energy and dynamic vibes that characterized the The Golden Era of Hip Hop 1986-1990.

So, what was our stage for this vibrant encounter? A Tunnel.  We designed and built a tunnel that was reminiscent of an 80’s feel.  We knew we wanted there to be lights and music but we also wanted to make sure the design captured the 8 bit essence of the time period.

We imagined an equalizer come to life – a light tunnel that harmonized with the rhythm of meticulously curated tracks from the golden era of Hip-Hop. Not merely an aesthetic spectacle, we worked with the iconic Elai Tubo to infuse the tunnel with an audio experience that emulated the pulsating vibe of the time.

This resulted in a participatory spectacle that provoked visitors to engage with their surroundings, to move, to react, and to capture their reactions. We aimed to incite genuine user-generated content, moving beyond the stiffly posed selfies to footage of joy, surprise, and nostalgia. Visitors were no longer mere spectators but active participants in the immersive light and sound show.

Once inside the tunnel visitors would deploy the experience by pushing the button, which naturally said, "Push It"

The opportunity for participation was boundless. The entrance served as a social platform where visitors could share, tag, and extend their experience online, catalyzing discussions around their journey through the light tunnel, and by extension, their adventure into the heart of The exhibit. The diversity of user-generated content revealed the depth of individual experiences, painting a holistic and vivid idea of why people should visit the museum.

We wanted to create something that could be updated with new music and the ability to reprogram the light show for a new mix.  The light tunnel's ability to be reprogrammed means it can ebb and flow with the changing tides of the music industry. It retains its freshness, adaptability, and more importantly, its ability to engage, regardless of shifting trends.

Transforming a visitor entrance into an experience is more than an aesthetic exercise—it's an opportunity to connect with your approach to user engagement, participation, and brand activation. As marketers, creators, and experience engineers, we have the unique opportunity to transform seemingly ordinary spaces into extraordinary journeys, crafting unforgettable narratives and moments that echo far beyond the confines of the event.
